The Virginia Chapter of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (VA HIMSS) is a volunteer organization whose primary goal is to develop educational and regional networking programs.
The Virginia Chapter of HIMSS is focused on providing VALUE for members and our generous sponsors! We are an active chapter that puts our primary focus on education. This is accomplished in many ways, most notably via Regional Events and the Annual VA HIMSS Fall Conference. These events typically highlight the senior leaders from Virginia’s top healthcare provider organizations. H.I.T. is always changing and VA HIMSS keeps this dynamic by scheduling relevant and informative discussions of critical issues and solutions the healthcare sector is currently facing.
We are currently accepting sponsorship applications for our events for the 2017 - 2018 fiscal year. Your contribution helps VA HIMSS offer valuable educational programming at an affordable price for attendees. Your business will benefit through exposure to our session attendees and valuable industry content.
The Virginia Chapter is a diverse group of 2000+ healthcare IT professionals working across the Commonwealth of Virginia. Chapter Members work at hospitals, corporate health systems, consulting firms, vendor organizations, universities and a wide variety of other organizations. Our participants range from senior executives to analysts and students; we also have technical members and clinical members.
Sponsorship provides you with the value of exposure to high-level decision-makers throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The VA HIMSS CIO Roundtable panel at the Annual Fall Conference draws CIOs from around the state to discuss current and relevant issues. This event has become so increasingly popular that we’ve expanded to accommodate two separate CIO panels and roundtables. We also have a CMO/CMIO panel roundtable and a CTO panel roundtable at our Annual Fall Conference in October 2017.
VA HIMSS provides statewide leadership for the advancement and management of healthcare information and technology. Our affiliation with national HIMSS allows us to participate in directing and shaping the healthcare industry, encouraging emerging technology and promoting public policies that will improve healthcare delivery.
Our goals focus on supporting the mission and vision of HIMSS. As a state-level organization we strive to carry out their mission at the local level and to serve as a conduit of information to and from the national organization.
Mission: Lead global endeavors optimizing health engagements and care outcomes through information technology.
Vision: Better health through information technology.
During a typical year, we offer short educational programs, including our Commonwealth of VA Advocacy Day at the General Assembly, our HIMSS national conference social and our always popular - VA Chapter Annual Fall Conference. A few years ago, we began including our Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament to kick off the conference. This is a rare opportunity to play 18 holes on the now, members only, Kingsmill River Course. For three decades, The River Course has hosted the world’s best players on both PGA and LPGA tours.
Our fall conference and educational programs are designed to share expert knowledge and to facilitate networking among our members. In addition to the fall conference, we also plan to host 4 Regional Networking Events. We typically plan our Regional events to include Northern VA, Central VA, Southeastern VA and Southwestern VA.
VA HIMSS Sponsorship July 2017 - June 2018 VA HIMSS is a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization, Tax Payer ID 54-1466325
Through our Regional Networking Events, the VA Chapter partnered with sponsors to host networking and / or speaking events, where VA HIMSS covered some or all of the cost of the event, as well as promoted the event to our membership. As a regional event sponsor your company is able to set up a small table and bring signage to the event. You’re also given the opportunity for a brief introduction. Our regional events attendance ranges based on topic and venue. We typically have no fewer than 60 people and no more than 200 at any one regional event.
In 2014, the Virginia Chapter of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) was pleased to announce a new scholarship program for a deserving student of health information technology or informatics. Virginia HIMSS Chapter established this scholarship to promote the development of emerging leaders in health information technology management. Virginia student members are all encouraged to apply for the scholarship.
The amount of the scholarship is $5,000 and is given annually. In addition to the $5000 scholarship award, the winner will also receive an all-expense paid trip to the Awards Banquet at the Annual HIMSS Conference and Exhibition. (Some restrictions may apply.) Virginia Chapter Scholarship recipients are appointed to the Student Liaison role on the Chapter Board.
