National Nurse’s Week is underway! From May 6th-12th, the healthcare community celebrates the dedication, compassion and invaluable contributions of nurses here in Virginia and across the nation. As members of HIMSS Virginia Chapter, we know that nurses play a pivotal role in patient care and keeping healthcare systems running and would like to take this moment to express our sincere gratitude for each of your efforts. Not everything that you do may show up on a report or in the numbers, but it still plays such a vital role to patients across the state!

As Health IT professionals, we know that one of the best ways we can support these amazing care providers is by continuing to focus on how Health IT can aid them in providing the best care possible. From electronic health records (EHR) to telehealth services, Health IT can be one way to help nurses lift a heavy load.

The integration of AI-enabled tools provides nurses with the ability to personalize care with greater accuracy by optimizing workflows and reducing the burden of documentation. Moreover, Health IT has been instrumental in breaking down silos between healthcare and technology.

We encourage you to get out and celebrate the nurses in your life and our communities.

Landmarks across the country are lighting up to celebrate nurses as part of the “#NursesLightUpTheSky” campaign, and you might be able to direct your favorite nurse to a restaurant discount in your area.

As we look to the future, we focus our efforts on continuing to find ways to ease the causes of burnout among nurses by looking for tech solutions to ongoing problems. Developing inclusive health chatbots and continuously improving EHR systems are just a few examples of how Health IT can help support.

National Nurses Week is a time to pause and appreciate the nurses who touch lives every day. Let’s use this week to express our gratitude for the nurses who make a difference and strategize how we can use technology to improve their jobs.

Looking ahead, we have the Data and Analytics Symposium on May 9 at Hotel 24 in Staunton. It’s a pivotal opportunity for us to delve into data’s power to transform patient care and operational efficiency.
