2016 Poster Competition Information

We are looking for bright and motivated students who are interested in health care IT to share their ideas in a special poster session at the Virginia HIMSS Annual Fall Conference. 

The theme of this year's poster competition is "Digital Transformation" Posters can be original research, case report, or opinion; and should emphasize the transformative potential of information technology.

Potential topics can include: Integrated infrastructure, cloud computing, global case studies, information exchange, information integration, continuity of care, ACO, bundled payments, clinical transformation around personalized health or population health, operations and workflow redesign, mobile health, and others.

A panel of Virginia based hospital CIOs and HIMSS board members will judge the posters and awards will be given to the top three authors.  Posters will be judged on insight into the challenges as well as the potential and level of innovation of their strategy.   

Rules and Eligibility

Any student (full or part time) at a Virginia college or university is eligible to participate. Students may collaborate with others, but the primary author (or authors) must be a student.  At least one author should be in attendance at the conference. All students with an interest in Health IT regardless of major (e.g. MHA, MBA, MIS, etc.)  are welcome. Maximum poster size is 56"x40".

To reserve a spot in the Student Poster Competition, students must submit a title to Jon DeShazo jpdeshazo@vcu.edu by October 20, 2016.

Student authors must attend the poster session to participate. Individuals with a HIMSS student membership will not be charged to attend the conference.  Students are also welcome to attend the Academic Partnership session during the conference.  The Academic Partnership session is open to individuals from industry and academia who want to participate in setting the goals and vision for Va HIMSS around academia.
